Cow Creek, plein air gouache on 300 lb rough watercolor paper, 6″x8″, Vinita Pappas

This little plein air painting was done on location at Cow Creek, a tributary to the Umpqua River in southern Oregon. I remember this fall day vividly. The salmon were starting to spawn and I could hear them splashing their way up the riffles in the creek. I was set up on rocks that would soon be under water when the fall rains arrived. It was just me, the creek, the salmon and the birds — a good day to be a painter!
