A Conduit for Passing Energy

Nov 6, 2022

Hi there,

I hope you're enjoying your Sunday and can find time for your creativity today, even if it's just 15 minutes.

It's wet here on the Oregon coast. The forecast indicates that we could receive an inch of rain and experience thunderstorms later tonight. It sounds like a good day to clean up the studio and work on a painting.

I like this quote below, but it's probably wise to avoid trying this outdoors when thunderstorms are in the forecast. You could get more energy than you bargained for!

Art is standing with one hand extended into the universe and one hand extended into the world, and letting ourselves be a conduit for passing energy.

ALBERT EINSTEIN

Here is an inspiring demo by the magnificent watercolor portrait artist Eudes Correia from earlier this summer. It's a long one; I'll admit I watched it at double speed. I'm amazed at Eudes' ability to paint loosely yet capture such a remarkable likeness.

Have an energizing week! ⚡️

Watercolor Notes:Resistance with a capital R A recent plein air painting Hi Reader, Here’s a very random analogy for you, so stick with me…growing up on a ranch, there were always a couple of cow magnets in my dad’s animal-medical kit. I played with them as a kid and no matter how you tried to push the opposing sides together, they just wouldn’t go. There was this invisible force field of resistance between them, and I could feel the push against my hands. (In case you’re wondering, cow…

The Game of Painting

The Game of Painting

by | May 26, 2026 |

Watercolor Notes Hi Reader, I hope your May has been a creative one so far. I took Ellie to the beach yesterday and she dug a big hole. What she really loves is rescuing a small stick from the depths of the sand. If I find a stick and push it down into the hole she’s already dug, the game really begins. It’s serious work and play at the same time. She has to problem-solve and that’s what she loves most. This is similar to the reason why I enjoy watercolor painting so much. Painting is one…
